Can You Put Squishmallows in the Washer and Dryer?

Squishmallows are the plush toys that are taking over kids’ and adults’ hearts with their adorable designs and soft, squishy filling.

But after they've been well-loved for a while, is it safe to put them in the washing machine?

Is it a Collector Item?

We're all aspiring Squishmallow collectors and we have a huge collection of them, but are you saving this one back as a prized Collector possession? Or maybe you like to deal in collectible toys?

In that case, don't even breathe on it! Keep your squishy and tag clean and dry!

Otherwise, follow these guidelines for a reasonably cleaned-up squishy!

Washing Instructions

Before anything else, always read the care tag attached to your Squishmallow for specific washing instructions.

Basically, Don't Do It!

The Squishmallow creators say that you should never put a Squishmallow in a machine washer or submerge it in any way. Doing so will distort that soft marshmallowy stuffing and likely result in a change of texture both on the inside and outside of your squishy friend.

It can also cause fading, pilling, and damage to extra details like eyes, hair, wings, and appliques.

It's important to note that if your Squishmallow has any electronic components inside, such as sound chips or lights, then it should never be placed in the washing machine or dryer as this could cause irreparable damage to these components.

Do This Instead!

It’s important to know how to properly care for your Squishmallows if you want them to stay in top condition!

Instead of using a machine washer, opt for spot-cleaning with mild detergent and warm water. This method is not only gentler on your Squishmallow but also helps preserve its shape better than an actual wash would. You can also use a damp cloth or sponge with detergent on it to get rid of stubborn dirt spots. Be sure not to scrub too hard—Squishmallows can be delicate!

What If I Wash It Anyway?

Well, we've all been there! The toy is smelly, covered in dirt, goo, and who knows what!

If your little Squishmallow is past the time for spot cleaning, you might not have anything to lose by throwing your cuddly buddy into the machine! Think twice and three times, though, if it has any electronic components.

Many owners regularly put their Squishmallow in the washer. However, they've shared some important tips and guidelines to follow when doing so.

First and foremost, you should only use cold water on your Squishmallow; hot water will damage its delicate stuffing and fabric.

Second, you should never use any kind of fabric softener when washing your Squishmallow as this can cause staining or discoloration on its surface.

Third, make sure to use a gentle detergent on a gentle cycle setting or your toy may become misshapen from the agitation.

It's also a good idea to put your Squishmallow in a washing bag to protect extra features like eyes or other attachments.

So Then Can I Throw It Over to the Dryer?

We're recommending a hard "NO" on this one!

Always air dry your squishy.

Some people are know to dry them on tumble dry low, but we still don't recommend it.

Storing Tips

When you're not hanging out, store your Squishmallow in a cool dry place away from sunlight or direct heat sources like radiators or vents which can actually cause some fibers to melt.

Sunlight will cause fading over time, so make sure all of your Squishmallows are stored out of direct light when possible.

Also, make sure you keep them away from open windows during cold weather as cold temperatures can cause damage as well.

Finally, avoid storing multiple items together as this could cause misshapenness due to compression from other items.
